    Top Aces completes busy Winter season

    Top Aces completed a successful 2012 Winter deployment season by providing Contracted Airborne Training Services for the Canadian Military in various southern locations.  Proving our experience below the border this winter resulted in safe and efficient training for Fighter Weapons Instructor Students, Fighter Pilot Students, Forward Air Controller Students, and Navy Task Group Exercise Sailors. Pictured here by Corporal Pierre Habib are four of Top Aces’ Alpha Jets led by a Canadian CF-18 Hornet over Fort Jefferson and the Dry Tortugas during exercise Chum Ex. This is an annual joint International exercise lead by the USAF’s 93rd Sqn. at Homestead Air Reserve Base.

    Tli Cho Air, Denesoline Partnership Awarded New EKATI Contract

    Tli Cho Air, which is owned by the Tlicho Investment Corporation as well as minority shareholder and Discovery Air subsidiary Air Tindi Ltd., in partnership with Denesoline Corporation of Lutsel K’e, has been awarded a new contract for aviation services with BHP Billiton’s EKATI Diamond Mine. Air Tindi general manager Trevor Wever stands beside the fourth Dash 7 in its fleet.The aircraft will be used to service BHP Billiton’s EKATI Diamond Mine and other customers.

    DA Hawk One Sabre gets a new paint job

    The Discovery Air Hawk One Team is already gearing up for another busy 2012 show season. In preparation, the Sabre received a new paint job, which you can see in this photo taken by Katsu Tokunaga. The 100th anniversary logo has been replaced by the tail livery that the RCAF Golden Hawks flew in 1963 and 1964 until their disbandment. The Discovery Air Hawk One is looking forward to another exciting season and is grateful for the continued support. Please check the Hawk One website for upcoming show dates.

    Discovery Air Joins Arctic Winter Games Team

    Discovery Air is pleased to announce that it has signed on as a Polar Sponsor of the upcoming Arctic Winter Games in Whitehorse. “The Arctic Winter Games have grown from 500 participants in in 1970 to more the more than 2,000 athletes, cultural performers, officials and other participants involved this year in Whitehorse,” said CEO Dave Jennings. “The Games are a key part of life and tradition in the North for the many families involved in our companies and Aboriginal partnerships around the NWT and Nunavut – as such we are extremely excited  to be involved.”

    DA Technical Services announces contract with Canadian North for Dash-8 Maintenance, Modification and Engineering Services

    Discovery Air Technical Services (DATS), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Discovery Air Inc., is pleased to announce it has signed a twofold contract with Canadian North  for heavy maintenance and for an aircraft upgrade program for four Dash 8 aircrafts.

    Discovery Air subsidiary, Great Slave Helicopters Limited (GSH) announced today that it has expanded into British Columbia with the purchase of its newest subsidiary Northern Air Support (NAS) pending approvals from the regulatory authorities. NAS is a profitable, safety-oriented helicopter charter company that has been serving its mining, forestry and oil and gas seismic clients in Western Canada for almost 20 years, from its two bases, in Kelowna, B.C., and Rocky Mountain House, Alta.

    ... that Air Tindi helped deliver toys to NWT Communities on Sunday December 18th, 2011? Over $80,000 worth of new toys were collected at the Toronto Santa Claus Parade and the Toronto Zoo to be distributed to children in Northern communities. They were flown into Yellowknife from Trenton on a C-130 Hercules and from there Air Tindi and its partner Tli Cho Air helped deliver them.

    ...  that one of Discovery Air Technical Services’ employees, Étienne Dumas Gilbert, took part in the 17th Skills Canada National Competition for Trades and Technologies? June 1st to 4th 2011, over 500 competitors gathered in Quebec City for the only national, Olympic-style, multi-trade and technology competition for young students and apprentices in the country. Gilbert finished in 3rd place in the aircraft maintenance category.

    ... that Discovery Aviation Academy is registered as a Private Career College (PCC) under the Private Career Colleges Act, 2005? All flight schools offering a Commercial Pilot License or Flight Instructor Rating must be registered as a PCC. DAA is one of the only schools in Northern Ontario approved to offer the Commercial Pilot License.
