Hicks & Lawrence Limited, (“H&L”), is a Northern Ontario based Air Operator, which has been active in the Canadian Aviation industry for over 50 years. H&L has established Flight Operations bases with Airframe, Line and Component maintenance bases in Dryden, Kenora, Chapleau and Sudbury Ontario . Additionally H&L supports Satellite Flight Operations bases in Geraldton and Timmins, Ontario.
The Company is organized into two operating divisions: FIRE and Air Charter. The Air Charter division is operated as Walsten Air and is focused on the provision of air charter services to various Government agencies as well as corporate customers throughout Northern Ontario and Eastern Manitoba.
The FIRE division is focused on the provision of Airspace and Aircraft Management (Birddog) services as well as Aerial Fire Surveillance (Detection) services in support of the Province of Ontario 's Forest Fire Management Program.
Current Story:
Discovery Air Inc. announced March 15, 2010 that its Hicks & Lawrence subsidiary has signed a new five year contract with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (OMNR) to provide twenty aircraft in support of the OMNR’s forest fire management and air transport/utility requirements. Tom Ball, the OMNR’s Provincial Aerial Operations Coordinator, commented that "Hicks & Lawrence was successful in obtaining a 5 year contract to provide Forest Fire Birddog, Aerial Fire Detection and Transport Services. They have been able to adapt to changing operational standards over the years and the serviceability of their aircraft continues to meet the high standards established by both Hicks & Lawrence and the Crown."
