Discovery Aviation Academy hosts 2nd Annual K4K Fun Fly Day
On August 17, 2014 Discovery Aviation Academy (DAA) hosted its second annual K4K Fun Fly Day. The fun-packed event included a BBQ, static displays, children’s’ activities as well as sight-seeing flights over the city of Sudbury in support of the Kicx for Kids Charity. This year, despite the cool weather, we were able to get over 110 people up in the air to raise $2,500. All proceeds from the event are going towards Phase 2 of the Kicx for Kids project, whose goal is to completely renovate the existing Treatment Room in the Pediatric Unit at Health Sciences North in Sudbury.
DATS obtains Supplemental Type Certificate for Aero Commander Multi-Mission Sensor Port
Discovery Air Technical Services is pleased to announce that it has been issued a Transport Canada Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for the incorporation of a Multi-Mission Sensor port onto a twin engine Rockwell Aero Commander. The sensor port facilitates the installation of a wide variety of multi spectral, infrared and optical sensors for use on environmental or surveillance missions.
GSH AME Will Ward awarded Medal of Bravery
Congratulations to Will Ward who was awarded the Medal of Bravery on April 24, 2013 for his actions in rescuing 2 Inuit hunters in Nunavut in March 2011. Will, a GSH Aircraft Maintenance Engineer, helped pull both men out of the freezing waters and got them safely to shore.
DATS delivers the 1st Beechcraft G58 Light ISR to Hawker Beechcraft of Wichita
Discovery Air Technical Services (DATS) is pleased to announce that it has completed missionization of a Beechcraft Baron G58 aircraft with ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) equipment for Hawker Beechcraft of Wichita, Kan.
DATS to undertake Aircraft Modification and Integration for Beechcraft G58 ISR Demonstrator
Discovery Air Technical Services is pleased to announce that it is supporting Beechcraft Corp. of Wichita, Kansas to develop a G58 ISR Demonstrator Platform. DATS is working with the Special Mission team at Beechcraft to develop an ISR Demonstrator that will be flown and demonstrated both domestically and internationally. DATS is undertaking the design, engineering, manufacturing, installation, ground testing, flight testing, and Transport Canada & FAA certification, in support of the special mission aircraft demonstrator.
Discovery Air announces new airborne training services contract with the German Armed Forces
Discovery Air announced on January 30, 2014 that Discovery Air Defence Services, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Discovery Air, has entered into a contract to provide airborne training services to the German Armed Forces. Under the Contract, Defence Services will provide fast jet airborne training services to the German Armed Forces for a term of five years utilizing a fleet of seven Douglas A-4 aircraft. Discovery Air completes the acquisition of Advanced Training Systems International
Discovery Air announced on December 17th, 2013 that Discovery Air Defence Services has completed the acquisition of Advanced Training Systems International, Inc. (“ATSI”). ATSI is a U.S. airborne training services company based in Mesa, Arizona. It currently owns a fleet of ten Douglas A-4 Skyhawk aircraft and offers airborne training services, including, among other services, tactical “Red Air” services, fighter lead-in training, electronic warfare, radar theory and other combat tactics.
