Student Engineer

Location: Pointe-Claire, QC

Duration: 16 months, beginning in Spring 2014


Discovery Air Defence Services is the exclusive supplier of combat airborne training services to the Canadian Forces. We provide joint terminal attack controller training to Canadian special operations and ground forces, Red Air and electronic attack training to CF-18 aircrew and navy, as well as live-fire target practice to the Canadian military.  Discovery Air Defence Services’ integrated logistics, maintenance and engineering solutions ensure that the Canadian Forces receives the level of support they require to achieve their objectives. Responsibilities

  • Work under the supervision of full time engineering staff
  • Work on special projects relating to aircraft sustainability
  • Participate in parts obsolescence projects and propose solutions
  • Participate in fatigue monitoring activities
  • Liaise with Fleet Management, Engineering and Maintenance departments
  • Report regularly to the Supervising Engineer to ensure project milestones are met
  • Prepare technical documentation, including engineering substantiations and drafting

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate student in Mechanical Engineering, concentration in Aerospace is an asset
  • Completion of 3rd year engineering program
  • Minimum cumulative average of 69.5% or B-
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Project
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Solid Works, MatLab
  • Bilingual (French & English) an asset
  • Ability to work on projects with an innovative scope
  • Able to obtain a positive Security Clearance from the Canadian Government
  • Ability to work independently and within a fast-paced and changing environment
  • Ability to work with multiple priorities
  • Willingness and resourcefulness to roll up your sleeves to get the job done

    Every year, residents of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut pursuing an aviation-related career in the North can each receive one of 16 $5,000 scholarships from a fund sponsored by the NWT Department of Transportation, Nunavut Department of Economic Development and Transportation, Discovery Air, Keewatin Air, North-Wright Airways, and First Air. The scholarships are offered to full-time residents of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut (two year minimum residency - a combination of continuous residency in both territories would be accepted to meet the residency requirement) pursuing full-time aviation-related studies.
